Will Bilawal Bhutto Zardari replace Imran Khan as PM of Pakistan?

Islamabad: The Sunday Guardian has reported that the Pakistani Army might replace current Prime Minister, Imran Khan, with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The Army is reportedly not happy with Imran Khan’s performance as Prime Minister and failed to charm both Donald Trump and Narendra Modi.

Moreover, Pakistan’s closest ally, China, is also not happy with the current Pakistani Prime Minister.

Added to these woes is the ‘Azadi March’ organized by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl, led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman demanding that the present government run by the Tehreek-e-Insaf must step down and Imran Khan resign. The marchers reached Islamabad this week and the heat is on against the Prime Minister.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl is a Muslim fundamentalist organization and one of the speakers at the meeting in Islamabad was Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The Sunday Guardian quotes a source who says that Imran Khan failed to set the economy right and also was not able to sell the US and other western powers the fake narrative of the Kashmir issue.

The economic situation in Pakistan is bad with inflation at 13%, growth rate falling to 13%, value of Pakistani rupee dropping by 20% against the dollar and the debt reaching 30% of the budget. Imran Khan was also not able to reign in tax evasion and corruption has he promised before he became the Prime Minister.

The source said, “There is huge resentment against Imran, who has become one of the most unpopular leaders of Pakistan and therefore, Pakistan Army, which had supported him once with great hopes, is feeling let down. His much-hyped visit to the US where he addressed the United Nations meet, turned out to be a total fiasco. He could not convince the global community about his narrative on Kashmir. That is why, it wants to ‘get rid of him’ and prop up Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his place.”

The Army might bring down Imran Khan, who rose to power with the blessings of the Army itself. It was evident that the Army is now ignoring Imran Khan when the Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa held a meeting with top industrialists and business leaders in the absence of the Prime Minister.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is the son of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto and former President Asif Ali Zardari. He was appointed as the Chairman of PPP in 2007 when he was just 19 years of age.

Bilawal is now a frontrunner for the post of Prime Minister and might be propped up by the all powerful Pakistani Army. However, he is considered weak and a novice to the harsh political waters of Pakistan.
