He was a man in the firing line during President Trump’s reign and was often sidelined for his open  acknowledgement that Covid 19 was something to be taken seriously. But Former President Trump who often derided Dr Fauci and even threatened to sack him, finally left White House without being able to achieve that.

The nation’s leading infectious-diseases expert, Dr Fauci endured nearly a year of darts and undermining of his authority, but now is in the good books of the new President Joe Biden. The new administration is said to be science-friendly administration which has embraced his recommendations to battle COVID-19. “If you don’t know the answer, don’t guess, Dr Fauci said in one pointed observation during a White House briefing. Just say you don’t know the answer – a far from the I know it all President Trump.

President Joe Biden’s administration's confidence in the doctor underscored the urgency of the moment to combat a pandemic that has killed more than 4 lakh Americans and reached its deadliest phase just as Joe Biden stepped into White House. Dr Fauci made clear that he believed the new administration would not send out mixed messages which was the order of the day during the Trump White House. Scientific fact was often obscured by Trump’s political agenda which was meant to win the elections, and Trump supporters often appeared without a mask.

Fauci at a press briefing, the first of his under the new administration acknowledged that it had been tough to work for Trump, who often mocked Dr Fauci and played down the severity of the pandemic. The use of hydroxychloroquine and other medicines was not based in scientific fact and Fauci admitted that he did not find said. He added that he took no pleasure in having to contradict the president, who often openly ridiculed him. On the other hand, Biden, during his presidential campaign, pledged to make Fauci his chief medical adviser when he took office.

The 80-year-old scientist was immediately seen in action waking well before dawn on Thursday for the virtual meeting with World health Organization which President Biden had rejoined the previous day – one of the first decisions of the new administration. He was seen alongside Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the White House as they unveiled a series of executive orders, which was meant to counter the rapid spread of the virus. With more than 4,000 Americans dying every day, Dr Fauci has a task cut out to speed up the nation’s sluggish vaccine distribution programme. The Trump administration had strictly controlled Dr Fauci’s popular public appearances and blocked most of them as it seemed to be at odds with negative press coverage that Trump was getting.

Fauci’s credibility was frequently undermined by the Trump administration which claimed that the pandemic was done and dusted. The subtle political influence of the messaging that it was raging pandemic was read as being negative to the image of President Trump. With Fauci’s return, it was taken a sign that things were back to reality.
Sacking Dr Fauci was something that Trump wanted to do, but he was warned that it would politically backfire. In the end, it was Trump who lost his job.
