At least 38 more people have been killed on Sunday (March 14) as security forces in Myanmar intensified crackdown to put an end to anti-coup protesters.
Myanmar’s powerful military grabbed power in a coup against the civilian government and imposed a state of emergency after detaining Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and other leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD).
“As of March 14, a total of 2,156 people have been arrested, charged or sentenced in relation to the attempted military coup on February 1. A total of 1,837 are still under detention,” said Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
The death toll in Myanmar’s protests has grown to 126 people since the start of unrest in February, 2021.
