Indian Embassy in US mourns loss of eight lives in Indianapolis shooting

The Indian Embassy in the United States has condoled the death of eight people, including four Sikhs, in a mass shooting incident at FedEx facility in Indianapolis.

‘We convey our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the shocking shooting incident at FedEx facility in Indianapolis and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured’, Embassy of India Washington DC said in a statement on Friday night.

The Indianapolis police have identified the victims of the shooting incident late Friday evening, which include persons from Indian American Sikh community.

“Our Consulate in Chicago is in touch with the local authorities in Indianapolis as well as the community leaders, and will render all possible assistance, as required,” it added.

The Consul General has spoken to the Mayor of Indianapolis, who has assured full support. We are closely monitoring the situation and remain ready to provide all possible assistance, it concluded.

Four people from Indian American Sikh community were among those killed. While four people were killed outside the building, as many were killed inside.

The Sikh victims were identified by local authorities as Amarjeet Kaur Johal, 66; Jaswinder Kaur, 64; Amarjit Sekhon, 48; and Jaswinder Singh, 68.

Other victims are Karli Smith, 19, R Alexander Matthew, 32, Samaria Blackwell, 19, and John Weisert, 74.

The shooter was identified as 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole of Indiana.
