Washington: A discussion conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that the nation is ready to launch Covid 19 vaccines for children under the age of 5.
During the pandemic, the country lost around 480 children between the ages of 0 – 4 years and this vaccine is a relief for many people, especially parents who have been waiting for this for months.
In the US the majority of the children were affected by the Covid virus and many of them were hospitalized. In midst of the rising number of active cases, Peter, an FDA scientist, put forward the need for Covid 19 vaccines for children. He said that all life is precious and it is necessary to produce vaccines for ensuring the security of the children.
In the US, the infant mortality rate of Covid is higher than the number of flu cases. Around 45,000 children were admitted in the hospital this year.
The Pfizer BioNTech’s vaccine seeks permission to give 3 doses of vaccine in children between 6 months – 4 years and the Moderna seeks permission to give 2 doses with 25 milligram each. As per reports, children have fewer risks while comparing with people in higher age groups. The country has a population of 20 million children in total.
Pfizer guarantees more immunity with more than 80 percent effectiveness. Only a small number of people who received the Pfizer vaccine faced the disease again. It is said that the protection against the virus can be achieved only by taking three doses.
