Columbo: Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has left to Maldives with three people including his wife
and bodyguards. The incident took place after he announced his resignation, which was supposed to happen today.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wikremesinghe has not yet announced the resignation date even though he
announced his willingness to resign. The protestors said that they will not leave the president’s palace unless the PM and President resign from their position.
Last day, the speaker had informed the nation that the president will resign from his position on Wednesday. But Gotabaya informed that he will resign only after getting enough facilities for himself and his family to leave the nation safely.
On the other day, while escaping to Dubai, Gotabaya, got detained by the immigration officers at Bandaranaike
Airport. He was trying to stamp the passport of himself and his family members by using the VIP queue. But the officers informed that they blocked his attempts to board four flights to the UAE.
