Islamabad: Pakistan’s police have said the country’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan is under investigation and security has been tightened outside his residence.

A day after Khan was booked, security on the road leading to his residence has been tightened, reported ARY News on Monday.

A terror case was filed against the ousted leader on Sunday for threatening the judiciary, police and other state institutions at his Islamabad rally on Saturday.

Tensions are high in the country, with the former leader’s supporters gathering outside his house vowing to “take over” if he is arrested, a BBC report said.

Since being ousted from power in April, Khan has been a vocal critic of the Shehbaz Sharif government and the country’s army.

Police opened their probe into the 69-year-old cricketer-turned-politician after he accused authorities of torturing his close aide, who is himself being detained under sedition charges, the BBC report added.

In a public speech on Saturday, Khan condemned Islamabad’s police chief and a female judge for the detention and alleged mistreatment of his party colleague.

Pakistan police on Sunday registered an FIR against  Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The case was registered on the complaint of magistrate Ali Javed in Islamabad’s Margalla police station at 10 pm on August 20 under Section 7 of ATA.

The case against Imran Khan surfaced hours after Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Sunday said that the government was mulling to file a case against Khan over his provocative speech.

As per Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Pakistan government is planning to get Imran Khan arrested, media reports said.
