Seoul: The number of people who died in the rush during the Halloween celebration has reached 149. About 150 people were seriously injured. A Halloween celebration in Seoul, South Korea ended in tragedy.

Those injured in the stampede in Itaewon district are being rushed to hospitals across Seoul. So the death toll is likely to rise, said Choi Seong-beom, chief of Yongsan Fire Department in Seoul. Many bodies are still lying on the streets.

The tragedy is believed to have been caused by a large crowd rushing through a narrow road near Seoul’s main party venue, the Hamilton Hotel. People suddenly experienced cardiac arrest and breathlessness due to rush.

More than 400 emergency workers and 140 vehicles have been deployed on the streets across the country for rescue operations. Efforts are also underway to take the number of dead and those under treatment. The police are also checking the CCTV footage of the area. In this situation, the government requested the people to return to their homes immediately. Details of the incident are yet to be released.

This was the first Halloween celebration after the corona pandemic. Around 100,000 people crowded on the streets of Itaewon for the biggest celebrations since restrictions were eased, local media reported.
