Jakarta: Indonesia’s Mount Semeru volcano erupted. Smoke from the volcanic eruption rose for miles. International media reports that large-scale lava flow is coming from it.
Mount Semeru is the highest mountain on the main island of Java, Indonesia. Last year, the same volcano erupted, killing 51 people and damaging 5,000 homes. About ten thousand people became refugees that day. In view of this experience, the authorities are evacuating people from the area. No casualties or damages have been reported at this time.
Traffic has been banned within an eight kilometer radius of the volcanic area. It is currently the rainy season in Java. It is warned that the post explosion mixture of ash and rainwater will cause health problems. A tsunami warning has been issued in Japan’s Okinawa following the volcanic eruption.
Indonesia is a country known for volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. There are about 130 active volcanoes here. In 2018, more than 400 people were killed in a landslide and tsunami following a volcanic eruption between Java and Sumatra.
