Melbourne: The Australian cricket team announced that they are withdrawing from the one-day cricket match with Afghanistan. The withdrawal was in protest against the misogyny of the Taliban government. The decision was taken by the Cricket Board after conducting a meeting with the Government of Australia. The Australian team withdrawn from the matches arranged to be held in the UAE, in March.
The prominent Afghan all-rounder Rashid Khan came forward protesting the incident. He said that he was disappointed by Cricket Australia’s decision. Rashid also hinted that he will withdraw from the Australian T20 tournament, the Bigbash League. Rashid is currently playing for Adelaide Strikers.
The Taliban, which took over Afghanistan after the US military withdrawal, has been brutally oppressing women in the country. The regime made wearing burqa mandatory and also banned women from the universities. The world nations had come up protesting against their action.
