Kuala Lumpur: Minister of State (MoS) of External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, made a significant visit to Malaysia where he jointly inaugurated the first-ever PIO Malaysia Event, organised by GOPIO Malaysia in collaboration with the Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia, on Friday. The Minister also participated in several key events and held crucial bilateral meetings during his visit.
The PIO Malaysia Event aimed to bring together the People of Indian Origin (PIO) community residing in Malaysia, fostering a sense of unity and celebrating their rich cultural heritage. Minister Muraleedharan’s presence at the inauguration showcased the Indian government’s commitment to engaging with the global Indian diaspora.
In addition to the PIO Malaysia Event, Minister Muraleedharan also delivered a keynote address at the inaugural session of the International Conference titled ‘India-ASEAN Dynamics in the Emerging Indo-Pacific Order: Pathways to Cooperation beyond the Third Decade.’ The conference, organised by the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with the Centre for ASEAN Regionalism University Malaya (CARUM) and Asia Europe Institute (AEI), aimed to explore avenues for cooperation between India and ASEAN countries in the evolving Indo-Pacific region.
As per reports, the minister also held bilateral meetings with prominent Malaysian officials, further strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Malaysia. He met with Datuk Mohamad bin Alamin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Ramkarpal Singh, Deputy Minister of Prime Minister’s Department (Parliamentary Affairs), and Senator Saraswathy Kandasami, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives.
At the Indian Community Reception, the MoS also met with notable political figures, a diverse range of Indian diaspora groups, business executives, and cultural organisations.
