Washington DC: United States President Joe Biden hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an intimate dinner at the White House on Wednesday, a day before the high-profile state dinner.
Accompanied by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his US counterpart Jake Sullivan, PM Modi joined the private dinner, which featured some of President Biden’s favorite dishes, including pasta and ice cream.
Earlier on Wednesday, the President of the United States and the First Lady received Prime Minister Modi at the White House in Washington DC on the arrival of the second leg of his official state visit.
PM Modi’s motorcade pulled up in the South Portico around 7:36 p.m. US President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden welcomed him. The camaraderie between leaders was visible as they seen laughing and engaged in conversation.
As a token of friendship, the first couple presented Prime Minister Modi with a cherished antique American book gallery from the early 20th century, along with other gifts. In return, PM Modi gifted the Bidens a special Mysore sandalwood box, handcrafted by a master artisan from Rajasthan, containing a silver idol of Lord Ganesha. The Prime Minister also gifted the US President a copy of the first edition print of the book ‘The Ten Principal Upanishads.’
During the intimate dinner, the trio enjoyed a captivating musical tribute to the diverse regions of India, performed by talented youth dancers from Studio Dhoom, an Indian dance studio based in the DMV area that aims to connect the younger generation with the vibrant Indian culture, as stated by the White House.
Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi took to Twitter to thank President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for their gracious hospitality at the White House.
Prior to the visit to the White House, PM Modi met Gary E. Dickerson, the President and CEO of Applied Materials, Sanjay Mehrotra, President-CEO of Micron Technology and H. Lawrence Culp Jr., Chairman and CEO of General Electric and CEO of General Electric Aerospace.
