Cairo: Following his recent trip to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a two-day visit to Egypt, which is set to commence tomorrow. As part of his itinerary in the vibrant capital of Cairo, the Prime Minister’s first engagement on the final day will be a visit to the renowned Al-Hakim Mosque, an architectural gem from the 11th century.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to spend nearly half an hour at the Al-Hakim Mosque, an esteemed religious site in the heart of Islamic Cairo. Named after the 16th Fatimid caliph, Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, this historic mosque holds great cultural and historical significance, particularly for the Dawoodi Bohra community residing in Cairo. Its intricate design exemplifies the remarkable Fatimid architecture prevalent in Cairo.
Earlier, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said, “It is worth mentioning here that this will be the Prime Minister’s first visit to Egypt, and I might also mention that this would be the first official bilateral visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Egypt since 1997.”
PM Modi, during his first Egypt tour, will also visit the Heliopolis War Grave Cemetery to pay tribute to the Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice fighting for Egypt during the First World War.
