Islamabad: Over 90 members of the Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party have been detained for staging protests against the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in connection with the Toshakhana scam case.
Law enforcement authorities arrested over 90 PTI activists and local leaders who were demonstrating against the incarceration of their party’s leader. The protests took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, specifically at locations such as Karnal Sher Khan Chowk and Swabi.
The PTI asserted that these protests were a response to the apprehension of Imran Khan, who had been actively involved in the party and its political endeavours. The party voiced the sentiment that the judgment rendered by the Sessions Court had been rejected by the entire nation.
This latest arrest of Imran Khan occurs approximately three months subsequent to his initial arrest on May 9 in Islamabad, related to the Al Qadir Trust case.
On August 5, the court handed down a three-year prison sentence to the former Prime Minister and current chairman of the Tehreek-e-Insaf party, Imran Khan, in connection with the Toshakhana case. The allegations revolve around his alleged misuse of authority during the period spanning from 2018 to 2022.
The case centers on allegations that valuable gifts received by the Prime Minister during official foreign visits were illicitly sold. It was revealed that Imran Khan had purportedly misappropriated gifts amounting to approximately Rs 140 million. His arrest followed the unveiling of these revelations.
