Magnitude-4.3 earthquake strikes Afghanistan, marking fourth quake in a week

Kabul: Afghanistan experienced an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on Thursday at 9:01 am, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). This event follows a series of recent quakes in the region, with the depth of the latest earthquake recorded at 180 kilometres.

In a post shared on X, the NCS provided details of the earthquake, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.3, Occurred on 04-01-2024, 09:01:50 IST, Lat: 36.60 & Long: 71.24, Depth: 180 Km, Region: Afghanistan.”

This marks the fourth earthquake in Afghanistan within a week. A previous earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter Scale occurred on Thursday at 1:12 am (IST).

On Wednesday, two earthquakes of magnitude 4.4 jolted in Fayzabad, Afghanistan. The first quake, at a depth of 80 km, struck at 12:28 am IST, 126 km east of Fayzabad. The second earthquake, with a depth of 100 km, occurred at 12:55 am IST, 100 km east-southeast of Fayzabad.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.4, Occurred on 03-01-2024, 00:28:52 IST, Lat: 36.90 & Long: 71.95, Depth: 80 Km, Location: 126km E of Fayzabad, Afghanistan,” stated the NCS in a post on X.
