New York: In an intense five-set match, Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov defeated Roger Federer 3-6,6-4,3-6,6-4,6-2 on Wednesday to register the former’s victory during their US Open tournament and entered the semi-finals.
Federer gave a good start when he won the first set by 3-6 but could not succeed in the second set and lost by 6-4.
Federer again made a comeback in the third set but was defeated consecutively in the next two sets.
The match swung in the Bulgarian’s favour after a lengthy game towards the end of the fourth set, which took its toll on Federer.
After the victory, Dimitrov said that he was a “little nervous” in the first set. He will next meet Russia’s fifth seed Medvedev for a place in the final.
