Hangzhou: Bharat’s shooting contingent added another feather to its cap at the 2023 Asian Games by securing a gold medal in the men’s trap team event.
Bharat scored a remarkable 361 points, surpassing Kuwait’s 1994 Asian Games record of 357. The trio comprising Kynan Darius Chenai, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, and Prithviraj Tondaiman showcased exceptional teamwork to secure the gold medal. The competition was intense, with Bharat leading by just one point as Chenai stepped up for the final round. The team’s total score of 361 showcased their dominance in the event, leaving second-placed Kuwait trailing by 2 points.
The women’s trap team also contributed to Bharat’s medal tally by clinching a silver medal with a total score of 337. Despite their commendable performance, China set a new world record by scoring 356 points, securing the gold medal.
Notably, Manisha Keer emerged as the top scorer for the Bharat’s women’s team with 114 points, followed by Preeti Rajak (112) and Rajeshwari Kumari (111). Manisha’s exceptional performance also earned her a spot in the individual final after navigating a five-way shoot-off for places 3-6 during the qualification event.
The 2023 Asian Games have been historic for Bharat in shooting events, with a total of 21 medals won so far. This surpasses the previous record of 14 medals achieved at the Doha Games in 2006. The shooting contingent’s stellar performance has significantly contributed to India’s overall medal count of 41, including 11 gold, 16 silver, and 14 bronze.
