Guwahati: Boxing icon Mary Kom has dismissed rumours of her retirement, asserting that her recent statement regarding stepping away from the sport was misconstrued. The celebrated athlete clarified that she has not officially retired from sports and emphasised that her words were distorted.
Addressing the rumours, Mary Kom stated, “I have not announced my retirement yet. The words I said have been distorted. If I want to share details about my retirement, I will address the media whenever I want to announce it.” She pointed out that she was attending a school event in Dibrugarh on January 24, 2024, wherein I was motivating children, and her words were twisted.
The initial statement she made during the event was, “I still have hunger of achieving in the field of sports, but the age limit in the Olympics does not allow me to participate again.” However, Mary Kom clarified that she expressed her intention to continue in the field of sports to the students. She asserted that these words were manipulated, and she remains dedicated to pursuing her athletic goals.
