Kalpetta:  Following the historic achievement of Minnu Mani from Wayanad in joining the Indian Women’s Cricket team, two more talented girls from the hilly district have made their mark. Sajana Sajeevan and V.J. Joshitha recently participated in the selection trials for the Women’s Premier League (WPL), representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians, respectively.

Hailing from Mananthavady, Sajana Sajeevan has an impressive track record in cricket. She previously captained the Kerala side in the U-23 National Championship and also led the South Zone team in the Inter Zone T20 Cricket Tournament. Under her leadership, Kerala clinched their first-ever U-23 Championship title. Sajana, the daughter of P Sajeevan and Sharadha Sajeevan, has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket and has showcased her skills at various levels.

V.J. Joshitha, a plus-one student from Kalpetta, has also been making waves in the cricketing world. She joined the Kerala Cricket Academy while studying in the eighth standard, and her talent quickly caught the attention of selectors. She has been selected to the KCA U-16 team and has represented the U-19 team on two occasions. Despite her young age, Joshitha has shown great promise and dedication to the sport. She attended the trials while undergoing training at the High Performance Camp in Bengaluru. Joshitha is the daughter of Joshi and Sreeja, who have supported her cricketing aspirations.

These young girls from Wayanad are a testament to the rising cricketing talent emerging from Kerala. Their participation in the Women’s Premier League selection trials showcases their potential and determination to excel at the highest level of the game. The fact that they were chosen for trials by prominent teams like the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians speaks volumes about their abilities.

The selection trials provide a platform for these talented individuals to display their skills and catch the attention of team selectors. It is an opportunity for them to further develop their cricketing careers and pave the way for a brighter future in the sport. Wayanad, known for its natural beauty, is now also gaining recognition for producing exceptional cricketing talent.

As Sajana Sajeevan and V.J. Joshitha continue their cricketing journey, the entire district of Wayanad and the state of Kerala eagerly await their success. These young women serve as inspirations to aspiring cricketers, proving that with dedication and hard work, dreams can be turned into reality. The cricketing community looks forward to witnessing their progress and hopes that their achievements will inspire more youngsters to pursue their passion for the sport.
