Dharamshala: England won the toss and elected to bat first against Bharat in the fifth and final Test match. However, it was Bharat who dominated the opening day by claiming all the wickets, restricting England to a total of 218 runs by the end of the third session of day one.
Opener Zak Crawley emerged as the top scorer for England, contributing 79 runs off 108 balls. Other notable contributions came from Ben Duckett (27), Joe Root (26), Ben Foakes (24), and Jonny Bairstow (29).
Bharat’s bowlers displayed a strong performance, with Kuldeep Yadav emerging as the hero by taking five wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja also made significant contributions, each claiming two wickets. Additionally, record-breakers Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj claimed one wicket each.
As R. Ashwin plays his 100th Test match today, taking the wicket of Foakes made this day more special for him. Foakes was attempting to sweep shot off Ashwin’s delivery in the 57th over, but it rolled back slowly onto the stumps. Bharat has already won the series by 3-1.
