Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows select users in the United States to download Reels directly from the platform. In a recent announcement on his broadcast channel, Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed that US users can now save Reels to their devices.
Despite Instagram remaining highly popular in India, Indian users are currently unable to access this feature. With over 2.35 billion monthly active users worldwide, India alone accounts for 229 million members as of January 2023. However, the ability to download Reels is currently limited to Instagram users in the US.
According to Mosseri’s message on the Instagram broadcast channel, “In the US, we’re rolling out the ability to download reels shared by public accounts to your camera roll. Just tap the Share icon on a reel you love and select Download.” It’s important to note that Reels shared by private accounts cannot be downloaded, and public accounts have the option to disable the ability for others to download their Reels in their Account Settings.
Mosseri also provided instructions on how to download Instagram Reels directly to the camera roll from within the app. Users simply need to tap the Share button and then select Download.
While the feature is currently only available in the United States, it is expected to be gradually rolled out worldwide, including in India. In the meantime, Indian users can still download Reels using third-party apps or by utilising the post to Stories feature.
