Elon Musk, along with Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, has officially revealed the new logo for the rebranded platform, now known as ‘X’, formerly Twitter. In a swift and crowd sourced process, the iconic bird logo has been replaced with an ‘X’ on Twitter’s official account. However, the changes have not yet been implemented in X’s user interface.
Linda Yaccarino shared an image of the new logo being projected on a building to mark the momentous occasion. Elon Musk promptly replaced his profile picture with the new X logo and even provided a link, leading to the Twitter homepage when accessed through X.com.
The Twitter CEO described ‘X’ as a platform representing “the future state of unlimited interactivity—centred in audio, video, messaging, payments, and banking—creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
The adoption of the letter ‘X’ in the rebranding does not come as a surprise, given Musk’s longstanding association with it. Back in 1999, he co-founded X.com, an online bank that later merged with another start-up to form PayPal.
Twitter has recently experienced a decline in advertising revenue during the departure of sales executives, attributing it to an increased vulnerability to problematic content on the platform. In light of this, Musk’s re-imagined social media platform, ‘X’, aims to make its mark by emphasising interactive features, multimedia content, messaging capabilities, and even exploring opportunities in payments and banking.
The rebranding comes at a time when ‘X’ faces stiff competition from Mark Zuckerberg’s Threads app, which made a significant impact upon its launch earlier this year.
As X sets its course towards reshaping the social media landscape, all eyes are on its progress and the unfolding innovations in the platform’s offerings.
