Palakkad: In the Alathur constituency, NDA candidate Dr. TN Sarasu stated that her nomination is in response to the symbolic grave prepared for her by the SFI leaders at Government Victoria College in Pallakad, where she served as Principal. Dr. Sarasu mentioned that campus politics have been banned by the Kerala High Court in Kerala, but the Kerala government has not taken any action on that. Instead, the Kerala government is encouraging and supporting the SFI’s political activities.
Dr. Sarasu added that even though she does not have any party membership, she worked as a part of the Left teachers’ organization for some time. However, she faced multiple threats from SFI leaders within the college for her diligent efforts to foster an educational environment on the campus. These threats stemmed from her efforts to create a meritorious academic atmosphere, which was opposed and disrupted by SFI leaders. In that situation, the Left teachers’ association also encouraged the SFI leaders to insult her.
Dr. Sarasu expressed her love for the college as her own home and her care for the students as her own children, working tirelessly to maintain discipline on the campus. On March 2016, on the retirement day of Principal Dr. Sarasu, the SFI leaders staged a symbolic burial of her on the campus.
During that time, only BJP leaders supported her. BJP leader in Kerala strongly condemned the incident and questioned the silence of the CPI(M) government. She emphasized that BJP leaders stood by her during the incident and continue to support her now. Dr. Sarasu added that this is her personal reason for joining the BJP. She then stated that her nomination for the Lok Sabha is an answer to the SFI’s atrocities on campuses.
She condemned the death of Siddharth, a veterinary student of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), in Pookode, Wayanad, who was mysteriously found dead in the hostel after facing assaults from SFI leaders. She stated that the veterinary student was tortured to death by SFI’s goons without even being given drinking water.
Dr. Sarasu further mentioned that even if the SFI members were debarred from appearing in examinations for any illegal activity, they would clear the examinations when results are announced. They have that much influence. She added that parents in Kerala are now afraid to send their children to colleges and universities due to such tragic incidents. Dr. TN Sarasu promised to make all efforts against such incidents on campuses in Kerala.
