Uddhav Thackeray passes floor test in Maharashtra Assembly amid BJP’s protest that rules were violated

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress’ Maha Vikas Aghadi passed the floor test of the Maharashtra Assembly today. The Aghadi garnered 169 votes in support of it. The opposition BJP staged a walk out protesting about the violations of rules in conveying the session.

Speaking at the floor of the House, former Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, said that the current session was conveyed against rules. He said, “The Assembly starts with Vande Matram and ends with National Anthem when it is called. This session started without Vande Mathram that is the reason it is violating the rules.”

Fadnavis also said that the opposition was informed about the session very late and questioned if this was done to keep the MLAs of the BJP away from the Assembly.

The chief of Shiv Sena, Uddhav Thackeray, took the oath of office on Thursday to become the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Shiv Sena broke away from the NDA after it was upset for not being given the post of Chief Minister.

The Sena then took a volte-face and aligned with their ideological rival, the Congress party, to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi and grab power in the state.
