The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Central Sector Scheme – “Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI)” to support creation of global food manufacturing of India.
This scheme will strengthen select Indian brand of food products for global visibility and wider acceptance in the international markets.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the PLI Scheme for the food processing will have an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore. He also said that this scheme will help in creating more job opportunities to two and a half million people in the future.
Goyal said that under this scheme farmers will get better prices for their crops along with hike in prices for fruits and vegetables. This will also boost the animal husbandry sector. The processing of food products makes export of these products easy and this will result in better financial conditions of the farmers.
Under this scheme, marine products been included, this is beneficial for the coastal states. Eggs and egg products have also been included in the scheme.
