Gorakhpur:  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the occasion of International Tiger Day on Friday said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is not only working with a sensitive approach towards protection of the national animal, but is also committed to ensuring safe habitats for them and nurturing tiger-friendly eco-systems.

Addressing the Inter-border cooperation workshop organised in Gorakhpur on Friday virtually, the CM said, “The upcoming fourth tiger reserve of Uttar Pradesh in Ranipur will soon resonate with the roar of the royals. The importance of tigers can be gauged by the fact that it finds a mention in our Vedas and ancient texts also. To protect our tigers, ‘Save Tiger Project’ was launched in 1973.”

He said that as a result of the vision and commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India achieved its target of Save Tiger in 2018, ahead of time. He said that the number of tigers in UP at the state level was 106 in 2006, which increased to 173 in 2018.

Referring to the Gorakhpur Zoo, Yogi said that the white tiger in the Zoological Park of Gorakhpur will give an opportunity to the people of Gorakhpur to protect it.

Extending greetings to the animal lovers and the people of the state on International Tiger Day through a tweet on Friday, the CM said that people needed to take the pledge to create an ecosystem conducive to the conservation of the national animal tiger which symbolises courage and strength on his solemn occasion.
