New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said that it successfully busted an Islamic State (ISIS) module in Kerala. The agency claimed that this operation averted possible terror attacks on places of worship and against community leaders.
The NIA statement said that the agency conducted an intelligence-led operation jointly with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Kerala Police based on credible inputs and investigations. The team searched four locations following the arrest of an accused.
According to the investigation agency, the team had on Tuesday tracked an accused Ashif from his hideout near Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu. The next day, searches were conducted in the houses of Ashif, Seyid Nabeel Ahammed, and Shiyas at Trissur. The house of one Rayees located at Palakkad was also raided.
The raid was successful in confiscating digital devices and incriminating documents.
The NIA said that the module busted by the investigation agency was involved in raising funds to promote IS activities and to carry out terror attacks. They were involved in raising money by committing robbery and other criminal activities.
The agency also said that the IS terrorists were conspiring to conduct a terror attacks in Kerala. The terrorists even conducted reconnaissance mission of various prominent places including places of worship. Leaders of certain communities in Kerala were also targeted according to the statement.
The IS module had planned to create communal divide in Kerala by spreading terror among the people.
