Tokyo: A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 on the Richter scale has struck Japan at 4:10 pm local time. The earthquake was reported in the Noto region. Authorities have issued a tsunami warning in Ishikawa, urging residents to be vigilant and evacuate to higher areas.
Additionally, coastal areas in Niigata, Toyama, Yamagata, Fukui, and Hyogo have received tsunami warnings. Coastal residents are advised to exercise extra caution due to the potential for high waves. Authorities recommend people in these regions move to higher ground for their safety. All high-speed trains in the Ishikawa region have been cancelled following the earthquake.
The 2011 earthquake in Japan resulted in a massive tsunami, with waves reaching 40 metres in height. The event, known as the “Great East Japan Earthquake,” claimed the lives of 18,000 people and left many missing in its aftermath.
