New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, is set to undertake an official visit to the Ugandan capital, Kampala, spanning from January 20 to 22, 2024. The Ministry of External Affairs conveyed this information through an official press release. The purpose of the visit is to participate in the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China (G-77).

During the visit, Minister Muraleedharan will deliver Bharat’s national statement at the summit and engage in bilateral meetings with his counterparts from G-77 member states. Additionally, the minister plans to interact with the Bharat community residing in Uganda, fostering stronger ties.

The theme of the summit, “Leaving No One Behind,” aligns with Bharat’s vision of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, the world is one family. The leaders from the 134 member states of this cross-regional group will convene with the objective of enhancing cooperation and solidarity among nations.

The official website of the Third South Summit outlines its goals, emphasising the promotion of South-South cooperation. The focus areas include trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication, and the digital economy.

In Kampala, the 134 member states will affirm their commitment to solidarity, unity, and complementarity in the South, presenting a unified voice to achieve common objectives.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared glimpses of the ongoing 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit, commencing in Uganda on Friday. The minister engaged with various foreign dignitaries participating in the two-day summit, reinforcing Bharat’s commitment to multilateral cooperation within the Non-Aligned Movement.
