New Delhi: In a bid to spread false propaganda and confusion, the enemy elements created fake Twitter accounts of army men. However, the Army, the Ministry of Defence and Home Ministry have detected the danger and is now taking down these accounts.
According to reports, there were 200 fake accounts in the name of senior Army men, including the Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat. The fake accounts are routinely used by enemy forces to spread confusion but after India scrapped Article 370 there was a rise of fake accounts by 60-70%.
Till now two-third accounts have been brought down after they were reported to be fake accounts. The disturbing fact is that these accounts were in the names of colonels, brigadiers, lieutenant generals, and major generals of the Indian Army.
The fake accounts were identified mainly after the officers pictures were posted in full uniform. Under the Army’s cyber security policy, serving officers are not allowed to reveal their rank, appointment, and official address. They are also not allowed to post photographs in uniform on social media.
Pakistan has been trying its best to spread false narratives of what is happening in Kashmir and to create confusion and trouble. The rise in fake accounts after India scraped Article 370 is proof of their desperation to foment trouble in India.
