New Delhi: India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Tejas, has become the first indigenously build aircraft to land on a an aircraft carrier. The prototype of the LCA landed on India’s INS Vikramaditya which has become a turning point in the LCA program.
The Tejas took an ‘arrested landing’ on the aircraft carrier, an achievement only done by US, Russia, the UK, France, and China using their jets. The prototype of Tejas which was used in the exercise will not go on production. The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is planning for a larger deck-based fighter jet based on Tejas.
The next test will be to land the second prototype, the twin-seat variant of the Naval Tejas, on INS Vikramaditya. The test will take place tomorrow.
