Pulwama: According to officials,an unidentified terrorist was shot down by the security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Sharshali village of Pulwama following information about the presence of militants there, they said. The search operation gradually turned to an encounter after security forces came under firing.
In the retaliatory firing, one terrorist was killed.
Meanwhile, a top Hizbul Mujahideen commander has been trapped by security forces in an ongoing encounter in South Kashmir’s Awantipora, officials said on Wednesday morning.
A cordon and search operation was launched by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF on late Tuesday night after the security forces received information about presence of terrorists in Beighpora area.
Two-three militants are believed to have been trapped, including top Hizbul commander Riyaz Naikoo, as per sources.
Internet services have been suspended in the Kashmir as a precautionary measure.
The operations are underway.
