Pulwama: In a major win for India, security forces have killed Hizbul Mujahideen’s top commander Riyaz Naikoo. He was active in the Jammu and Kashmir for eight years now.
One of the major highlights is that after his elimination, south Kashmir is on its way to terrorism-free region.
Naikoo was killed in an operation that lasted long by Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Beighpora area in Pulwama.
The operation was one of three separate anti-terror operations launched in the south Kashmir area. Two more terrorists have been killed in Sharshali Khrew area of Awantipora.
Naikoo had 12 lakh rupees bounty on his head and he was the most wanted in the list of security forces. The commander took charge of Hizbul after former chief Burhan Wani, who was killed in an encounter in July 2016. Naikoo was the mastermind behind several major terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
A senior intelligence officer told news agency ANI, ” He planned massive activities in Kashmir during Ramzan so that he can raise more terrorists from local villages. In a conversation recorded by security forces, a terrorist had said that Naikoo will be doing some operations directly, which became first tip-off of his location.”
“He used youths in spreading lies on social media to disturb law and order situation in the valley,” after the abrogation of Article 370 said sources.
