Rustom-2, Defence Research development Organisation (DRDO) developed medium altitude long endurance drone will take off from its test range in Karnataka’s Chitradurga and fly for more than 18 hours in April, at a height of 27,000 feet.
Rustom-2 is also known as Tactical Airborne Platform for Aerial Surveillance-Beyond Horizon 201 (Tapas-BH). It has been built for surveillance operations.
It successfully completed the last test flight in October last year by flying for more than 8 hours at an altitude of 16,000 feet.
India was relying on expensive equipment imports from USA and Israel. Rustom-2 is seen as a step towards the efforts made by the Government to producing outstanding defence equipment as production of drones was one area where India lagged behind.
