New Delhi: Reports say that Indian Navy has conducted massive Carrier Battle Group (CGB) ops in the Arabian Sea. Two aircraft carriers, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, also participated in the exercise along with more than 35 aircrafts. Officials did not disclose the exact date of the exercise but said that the CGB ops occurred recently.
According to reports, CBG is a naval fleet comprising an aircraft carrier and its multiple escort vessels. The Indian Navy’s exercise was a twin exercise with both India’s aircraft carriers present. There were also ships, submarines and other aircrafts.
The exercise involved MiG-29K, helicopters such as MH60R, Kamov and Advanced Light Helicopters.
Indian Navy Spokesperson said, “The exercise marks significant milestone in the Indian Navy’s pursuit of enhancing maritime security and power-projection in the Indian Ocean, and beyond.”
In a tweet, the Navy Spokesperson said that the CBG ops demonstrates Indian Navy’s formidable capability in ensuring sustained air ops across the vast maritime expanse and underscoring the force’s commitment to safeguarding India’s national interests.
The report said that the exercise involved seamless integration of India’s two aircraft carriers along with a diverse fleet of ships, submarines and aircraft. It showcased India’s technological expertise in the maritime domain.
The exercise is viewed as a reply to Chinese incursion into the Indian Ocean. The Indian Navy spokesperson said that this demonstration underscores Indian Navy’s commitment to safeguarding national interests, maintaining regional stability and developing cooperative partnerships in the maritime domain.
Indian Navy currently has two aircraft carriers and is in the discussion for a third carrier to increase its capability. The discussion is on the possibility of building another one indigenously like INS Vikrant.
