Bamrauli Air Base, Lucknow: During the 91st Air Force Day celebrations at Prayag Raj, Uttar Pradesh, the Indian Air Force (IAF) unveiled its new flag, symbolizing a transformation aligned with the evolving times. The Chief of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, presented the new flag, emphasizing the force’s commitment to meeting the challenges facing the nation.
Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhary conveyed that the Air Force is prepared to confront and overcome obstacles, ensuring the country’s security and fostering peace. He highlighted the expanding strength of the Air Force, stating that efforts are underway to modernize the force to effectively address emerging threats. Defense PRO and Group Captain Samir Gangakhedkar revealed that the new IAF flag is a visual representation of the force’s values.
Today, the flag that has been in use for seven decades has changed. The new flag has the canton national flag on the left and the IAF tricolor ring on the right. The Air Force insignia is also displayed in the upper right corner of the flag.
“The RIAF Ensign comprised of the Union Jack in the upper left canton and the RIAF roundel (Red, White & Blue) on the fly side. Post-Independence, the Indian Air Force ensign was created by replacing the Union Jack with the Indian tri colour and the RAF roundels with the IAF tri colour roundel in the lower right canton.
A new lAF ensign has now been created to better reflect the values of the Indian Air Force. This reaffirmation will now be reflected by the inclusion of the Air Force Crest in the top right corner of the Ensign, towards the fly side.”, the Indian Air Force added to their official website.
