New Delhi: In a significant stride towards bolstering its defense export initiatives, Bharat is poised to kickstart the export of ground systems for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile within the next 10 days. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Chairman, Dr. Samir V Kamat, highlighted this pivotal development in an interview with news agency ANI.
Dr. Kamat revealed that the export process is scheduled to kick off soon, with the ground systems taking the lead. The initial batch of BrahMos missile systems is expected to be dispatched to the Philippines by the end of March. This venture is part of an extensive defence export contract valued at USD 375 million, representing the largest agreement of its kind that Bharat has ever entered into with a foreign nation.
Underscoring the growing prominence of defence exports, Dr. Kamat cited successful examples such as hull-mounted sonars, lightweight torpedoes, and radar systems that India has previously exported to various countries.
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system, a collaborative effort between Bharat and Russia under BrahMos Aerospace, stands as one of the world’s most successful missile programs. Acknowledged as the best and fastest precision-guided weapon globally, BrahMos has significantly augmented Bharat’s deterrence capabilities in the 21st century. The next-generation variant of the missile, characterised by smaller, lighter, and smarter dimensions, is specifically designed for deployment on a broader range of modern military platforms.
