Visakhapatnam: Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar presided over the commissioning ceremony of INS Sandhayak at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. During his address, Admiral Kumar highlighted the Navy’s dedication to building a balanced ‘Atmanirbhar Force’ for a stronger and ascended Bharat.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh graced the event, with the Navy Chief extending a warm welcome to the honourable minister.
Admiral Hari Kumar highlighted the significance of the vessel’s name, stating, “Sandhayak, which literally means ‘one who carries out a special search,’ is indeed a fitting name for the first of the four state-of-the-art survey vessels in this class.” The introduction of INS Sandhayak represents a step forward in enhancing Bharat’s maritime capabilities.
The Navy Chief also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Mission SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region). He emphasised the Indian Navy’s skills in constructing indigenous warships and submarines over the years, positioning INS Sandhayak as the 34th addition to the Navy’s formidable fleet.
The newly commissioned INS Sandhayak represents an updated version of its predecessor, which served in the Indian Navy from 1981 to 2021. Launched on December 5, 2021, and officially delivered to the Indian Navy on December 4, 2023, it stands as the first of four advanced survey vessels.
