New Delhi: Bollywood movie ‘Gully Boy’ is the India’s official entry for 92nd edition of Oscars due to in 2020 in the Best International Feature Film category.
The film was released on 15 February, 2019, and had positive reviews from critics. The film went on to gross Rs. 238 crore globally and is one of the highest earning movies in 2019.
Directed by Zoya Akhtar with Ranveer Singh Alia Bhatt, and Sidhant Chaturvedi in lead roles, the movie revolves around an aspiring rapper Murad Ahmed, who was born in the Dharavi slums of Mumbai.
The movie was premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, before its wide release, to positive reviews at the festival.
FFI Secretary General, Supran Sen said, “India’s official entry for Oscars this year is ‘Gully Boy’. There were 27 films in the running this year but it was an unanimous decision to select ‘Gully Boy’.”
Gully Boy was the selected from a host of other good movies which included AndhaDhun, Article 15, Bulbul Can Singh, Kesari, Super Deluxe, Uri: The Surgical Strike and Vada Chennai.
