The water level in the Dhauli Ganga river surged on Thursday and the rescue work has been temporarily halted at the tunnel in Tapovan where 25-35 people are trapped for over four days since the glacier burst.

Chamoli District Magistrate Swati S Bhadauria said work has been temporarily halted as a precautionary measure.

Nanda Devi glacier burst on Sunday has led to large scale devastation in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. The ITBP and NDRF along with Indian Army have rescued around 30 people trapped in the first tunnel and rescue operations to rescue others from the second tunnel was being carried out. It has been four days since the disaster took place and there is a lot of concern regarding the lives of the people trapped in the second tunnel. The Dhauli Ganga river water level has surged which became an issue for the rescue operation to be continued.
