Explosion in a fireworks factory near Sattur in this southern district in Tamil Nadu, killed 11 workers and 36 injured.
The explosion occurred when some chemicals were being mixed to produce fireworks at the unit in Acchankulam village. The factory building was damaged badly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami announced an ex-gratia of three lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured from Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.
