Political leaders expressed grief over the death of acclaimed poet Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri. The Malayali poet breathed his last at his residence in Thycaud due to old-age ailments at the age of 81.
“Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri is a poet who has modernized the cultural space and integrated t with a new age. He is a poet who has taken Malayalam language and poetry to new heights. His demise is a great loss for Malayalam Language, Kerala’s culture and progressive values,” tweeted Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Vishnunarayanan was a highly respected teacher and orator. He has been selected for the prestigious Vayalar Rama Varma literary award for his collection of poems “Charulatha”. His works are known for their blend of tradition and modernity. His poems stand out on account of their philosophic depth.
More than his reputation as a professor of English, Vishnu is much better known for his enormous contributions to Malayalam literature as a poet par excellence.
