Voting for the first phase of assembly elections in West Bengal began on Saturday (March 27) morning. Bengal recorded a voter turnout of 14.3 per cent till 9:30 am. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda urged people to vote in large numbers.
The polling is being held in 30 constituencies across five tribal-domianted districts including Purulia, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, Purab Medinipur and Bankura.
Heavy security arrangements have been made. A total of 723 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed in West Bengal for the first phase of elections.
