Superstar actor Rajinikanth will be conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. The announcement was made by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar today (March 1).
“Really happy that the jury unanimously chose the legendary @rajinikanth ji for the #DadaSahebPhalke award. My all-time favourite movie of Thalaiva is the 1992 Tamil classic Annamalai,” tweeted Prakash Javadekar.
The jury included prominent people from the industry- Shankar Mahadevan, Asha Bhosle, Malayalam actor Mohanlal, filmmaker Subhash Ghai, and Bengali star Biswajeet Chatterjee.
Rajnikanth thanked PM Modi and Prakash Javadekar for conferring him with the prestigious award.

Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the actor on being conferred with the award.
“Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality…that’s Shri @rajinikanth Ji for you. It is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him,” tweeted PM Modi.
