Union Culture and Tourism state minister (independent charge) Prahlad Singh Patel visited the historical Devi Chaudharini temple, better known for Sanyasi Rebellion. He was visibly upset to see the dilapidated and burnt idols of Bhawani Pathak and Devi Chaudharani. Prahlad Singh said that CM Mamta Banerjee had given the wrong information about the state of the temple. Four years back this ancient temple was burnt down and renovation has still not been completed. Mamta Banerjee had delivered false information about the renovation work. Singh said it’s unfortunate and has not only hurt the religious sentiments of the masses but also has dishonoured Bankimchandra Chaterjee, the author of Vande Mataram. Singh said that Bankimchandra composed Vande Mataram on this pious land and this where he was arrested by the British.

Prahlad Singh Patel announced that he will arrange a massive event to revere Bankimchandra Chattopadhaya by arranging Vande Mataram singers from round the country.

West Bengal has always been an important place as far as religion and politics is concerned. This place is known for its Sanyasi Rebellion, and was the place where revolutionaries use to take shelter in the garb of Sanyasis and spread patriotism in this area. Bhawani Pathak was one among them and he belonged to Gorakhpur.  But he chose his place of work in Bengal and got a strong helping hand in form of Devi Chaudharani who was a daughter-in-law of a local revolutionary.
