Barring reports of stray violence, the fifth phase of polling in West Bengal recorded a high turnout of more than 79 per cent till 5:45 pm.
The security personnel maintained a tight vigil and addressed a few incidents that were reported, an election official here said.
Voting for the fifth phase of the eight-phase assembly election in West Bengal began on Saturday morning in 45 of the state’s 294 constituencies amid elaborate security arrangements.
Polling for the fifth phase was held across six districts and 45 assembly seats. The districts include North Pargana Part I, Darjeeling, Nadia Part I, Kalimpong, East Bardhaman Part I and Jalpaiguri.
