In the wake of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the A&N Islands, and, to manage the risk of spread of COVID-19 virus due to the crowding of tourist places, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has suspended all tourism activities in the National Memorial Cellular Jail, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, also including the Light Sound Show at both these places, all museums, all beaches, Baratang Caves, all Water Sports activities, and any other such tourism activities in all the three Districts, for 04 weeks starting from 22/04/2021.
It is believed that the sudden order issued by the Director of Tourism Department of Andaman, Mr. Alok Kumar today will leave an impact on those tourists who are visiting Andaman and Nicobar Islands at present and also those who are planning to arrive at Port Blair in the next few days.
However, looking at the growing number of COVID-19 cases the order was well expected by many others.
Till last official update altogether 5466 people were tested COVID19 positive since the beginning, out of which 5243 people have recovered. At present, there are 159 active cases of COVID-19.
Altogether 64 deaths have been reported so far for COVID-19 in the Union Territory.
Despite the robust vaccination drive being carried out by the Administration in different parts of A&N Islands besides significant increase in the number of testing and strict enforcement of COVID-19 appropriate behavior by Police & concerned authorities, the Islands are witnessing a steep rise in the number of COVID positive cases.
A large number of positive cases are seen in the passengers coming from the mainland. There have also been some reports of tampering with RTPCR negative report by the incoming passengers and the Administration has lodged an FIR against such errant passengers.
Meanwhile, to curb the spread of COVID positive cases in A&N Islands existing Corona curfew has been revised from 10 pm to 5 am to 9 pm to 5 am with immediate effect.
