Sambalpur, June 1 (UNI) Over 6,000 artists from all over the country will perform during the Sital Sasthi festival, a popular festival organized in this western part of Odisha in a grand way after a break of two years. While the rituals of the week-long festival that marks the wedding of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati began on Tuesday, the divine marriage will take place on June 4 next.

And the most important homecoming procession of the divine couple – Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati – to their respective temples after completion of their marriage would commence on June 5 night and end on June 6 afternoon.
The festival was organised in a low key manner for the last two years consecutively due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the procession, the devotees and visitors would get the opportunity to witness the dance forms like Gourbari, Kalas dance, Paika Akhada, Samparda, and Ghumra, which are on the verge of extinction.

According to the Yatra coordination committee, over Rs 1 crore would be this year’s budget for celebration of the sital sasthi festival in Nandapara, Jharuapadra and Mudipara. Working President of Joint Coordination Committee of Sital Sasthi Yatra Susanta Purohit said the organizing committee members are excited as well as the devotees as they will be witnessing and participating in the divine festival after two years. Apart from the Mudipara, Nandapara and Jharuapara Sital Sasthi Yatra Committees, Several other temples in the city will be also organising the festival.
