Palakkad: In a rare incident at Kava, Malambuzha in Palakkad district, a black panther spotted sitting on rock near the road. Jyothish Kuriakko, clerk at AEO office, Palakkad, captured the rare moments. Forest officers informed that they have seen the same male black panther accompanied by two leopards in the area earlier too.
Both black panther and leopard are same animals, the black colour is due to the genetic issues,. The spots, like those of leopards can be visible if closely observed. Variation in melanin level makes panther’s colour blackish, says expert.
Black panthers can be seen in India, Java island of Indonesia and also in Africa’s Mount Kenya.
