Sensex drops 1016.84 points

Mumbai, Jun 10 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Friday crashed 1016.84 points to settle at 54,303.44 on weak global cues.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too slid 276.30 points to 16,201.80.
The Sensex fell by 560 points to 54,760.25 in opening trade. During the day it was crashed 1,115 points to 54,205.99, the days low, before closing at 54,303.44 from its previous close. The Sensex registered the days high and low at 54,780.78 and 54,205.99 points respectively.

The Nifty recorded the days high and low at 16,324.70 and 16,172.60 points respectively. The sectoral indices like Finance, IT, Oil and Gas, Energy and Technology dragged the market down. In scrips, Kotak Bank was a major loser, 4.07 per cent at 1789.90 followed by Bajaj finance by 4.02 per cent to Rs 5660.75, HDFC by 3.73 per cent to Rs 2181, Reliance Industries by 3.08 per cent to Rs 2712.30 and Wipro by 2.94 per cent to Rs 461.15.

The gainers were Ultracemco by 0.33 per cent to Rs 5500, Dr Reddy’s Lab by 0.18 per cent to Rs 4334.10, Titan by 0.17 per cent to Rs 2143, IndusInd Bank by 0.15 per cent to Rs 922.05 and Nestle India 0.11 per cent to Rs 16791.25. The Mid Cap fell by 0.64 per cent and Small Cap by 0.70 per cent.
In 30 scrips 7 advanced while 23 declined. European stocks fell further on Friday as investors digested the European Central Bank’s latest policy meeting and looked ahead to a key US inflation print.

The European Stox 600 dropped 1.3 per cent.
